Over a thousand students celebrated 4/20 in style, lighting up at precisely 4:20 PM after an energetic countdown.
Police were stationed outside the crowd, warning people that only those with a UVM student ID could enter the green. We didn’t see a single person asked, and many non-UVM people (including a few in their thirties/forties) lit up with the revelers.
Police officer O’Neil wandered around the clouds and crowds, filming people with a video camera. She said the footage would go to “training” and “could go to CSES.”
There was no routing of the smoking masses, nor herding of the youth by police. Instead, cops walked into the crowd and gently fanned the students away. O’Neil walked through the crowd, slightly dispersing it by filming students’ faces.
UVM students defiantly celebrated marijuana, weed, pot, or whatever you want to call it. It’s no surprise that there’s something so great that unites the student body.
In a few weeks, it’ll be the Naked Bike Ride.
